A role for the church in this
What is the role of the church? Often it has seemed highly generic in how it talks about living a good life. It doesn’t specify that there are certain culturally assumed behaviours that some people might not even consider do not fit into God’s notions of righteousness. One of the hugest themes that comes across in offending behavior work is the belief that no one was being harmed. If that appears to be the case, why even consider whether it is antithetical to being a Christian?
We have a duty, a fundamental necessity to protect our children from the onslaught, and I’m not using hyperbole here, that is affecting them. If the Children’s Commissioner (2023) can talk about a conversation with a girl, who stated that her first kiss involved being strangled by a 12-year-old boy, because that is what he thought was normal due to what he’d seen in pornography, then we have to step up to face the realities of this world. We have to, or all our lovely hymns and times of deep learning are selfishness compared to what we could be doing in creating a better, safer, holier world.
